Welcome!

A husband and wife sold many of their personal belongings to fund a new snack bar business.

Ray Jackson and wife Sue opened Sizzlers, a mobile catering unit, in Newton Abbot at the beginning of March 2009.

Just over a year ago the couple were struggling to make a new start after moving to the area from the midlands. Ray, a self-employed carpenter by trade, had become a victim of the recession and was forced to sign on after work dried up. But instead of being downhearted he bought an old caravan, and using funds from the sale of household goods, transformed it into a snack bar.

Today their lovingly re-built 1978 caravan sits on Pottery Road close to the hungry workers from Jewson and Booker cash and carry. Ray said:  Business is getting better every week that goes by and it just shows that if you have a good idea and are prepared to work at it then things pay off.
